Less forgiving than Portra and less flattering to skin. Meter carefully. Development and scanning are purchased separately.
The sharpest colour Kodak makes.
Kodak Ektar 100 is built around one idea: the finest grain of any colour negative film in production. On a 120 negative that produces scans with an almost unreasonable amount of detail. This is a single roll rated at ISO 100.
It is not a subtle film. Saturation is high, blues and greens come forward, and contrast sits well above Portra. That makes it superb for landscape, architecture, nature, and travel, where you want colour to have real presence and the subject is not somebody’s face.
That same intensity is why most photographers do not choose it for portraits, since it can push skin warmer and redder than Portra would. Give it good light, expose it carefully, and it rewards you with the cleanest colour file you can get off film.
