Because it runs in C-41, this is the easiest black and white film to get developed anywhere. Development and scanning are purchased separately.

Ilford XP2 Super 400 is the unusual one. It looks like black and white film because it is black and white film, but it is chromogenic, which means it develops in standard C-41 color chemistry rather than traditional black and white chemistry.

That single fact changes how it behaves. The grain is noticeably smoother than a conventional 400 speed film, the tonality is gentle, and the exposure latitude is enormous. Ilford rates it at ISO 400, but it holds usable detail anywhere from 50 to 800 on the same roll, which makes it remarkably hard to ruin.

It is a good choice if you want monochrome without the contrast being harsh, and a genuinely great choice for a first roll of black and white. Send it to us and it runs through our C-41 line.
