Built for uncertain light.
Ilford HP5 Plus 400 is the black and white film photographers reach for when conditions will not cooperate. This is a single roll of 120 medium format film, made in England by Ilford and rated at ISO 400.
At box speed it gives you medium contrast, honest mid tones, and the textured grain that has defined documentary and street photography for decades. Its real strength is forgiveness. HP5 Plus holds detail across an unusually wide exposure range, so a frame you metered in a hurry still tends to come out. When the light drops, push it to 800 or 1600 and the grain gets punchier without breaking down. It will go to 3200 if you need it to.
Shooting it in 120 rather than 35mm gets you a much larger negative, which means smoother tonality, finer apparent grain, and more room to crop or print big. You get 12 exposures on a 6×6 camera, 16 on 645, and 10 on 6×7.
It is a genuine all-rounder for portraits, travel, concerts, street work, and anything handheld indoors. Shoot it and send it back to us. We develop and scan black and white in house, so the film and its processing come from the same place.
