High quality scans for every photographer.
A film scan is a digital copy of your film negative, converted to a positive image that when scanned properly, contains a wide dynamic range allowing for more flexibility in the editing process.
And if editing isn’t your thing, we’ve got your back. Select from three Tonality levels (Flat, Neutral, Punchy) to achieve your desired contrast.
Your friends will be Gel-ous.
Gelatin Labs is putting creative control back into your hands. Our film scans will have a flexible tonal range, which means that highlights, midtones and shadows are preserved. This makes editing a breeze.
- Highlights are bright areas in the image like the sky and anywhere light is at its strongest intensity.
- Midtones are neutral tones that exist across your entire image. Shadows are the darkest areas in the image and can contain lots of important detail.
- Shadows are the darkest areas in the image and can contain lots of important detail.
Warm, Neutral, Cool – Oh my!
We get it. You’ve poured your heart, soul, and probably a good chunk of your budget into capturing the perfect shot on film. That’s why we’re committed to honoring your vision with exceptional scans. Start with our three initial Temperature options (Warm, Neutral, Cool), then fine-tune every detail to match your unique style. Who better to bring out the best in your film than the artist who created it? You.
Words for the nerds...
If you’re a nerd for the numbers like we are, this is for you. TIFFs, DPI, and color science not important to ya? The short of it: your scans are in good hands.
When it comes to the quality of your scans, more bits the better. We only deliver your scans at our highest available output of color depth. At 48 bits, our scans will display the color complexity that your negatives deserve.
Choose between our Casual, Pro, and SuperPro scan levels for an increasing scale of file size, type, and resolution (see specifics on our ordering page).
.TIFF vs .JPEG
With our Pro and SuperPro scan levels, your images are delivered to you in the uncompressed .TIFF file format.
Compared to the .JPEG format used exclusively by most labs, which strips your image of important data and color information, .TIFF stores everything the scanner sees. This allows for maximum editing capability, if you wish to make your own adjustments.
If you don’t need the extra firepower, opt for our Casual scan level to receive high quality .JPEG images.
You shoot, we do the rest.
Scanning your film is what we do best. Get started with your next batch of film and be prepared to love the results.
